VILLA RESTORATION | ONEHUNGA

Villa Restoration | Onehunga

When dealing with a classic heritage property, hiring a specialized villa renovation designer Onehunga is absolutely crucial. Restoring a century-old home requires a delicate touch. Specifically, we must carefully balance preserving the original character with integrating modern comforts. For this particular project, the clients wanted to modernize their cramped living spaces while deeply respecting the home’s historic street frontage.

Preserving Heritage Character

First and foremost, we focused heavily on the exterior restoration. Classic timber weatherboards and traditional sash windows are iconic features of New Zealand villas. Therefore, we meticulously repaired and replicated these elements wherever possible. As a dedicated villa renovation designer Onehunga, ensuring the front facade remained completely authentic was our top priority. We beautifully restored the classic front veranda. Consequently, this created a welcoming entrance that honors the original architectural history.

Modernizing the Internal Layout

While the front of the house remains traditional, the rear tells a completely different story. Historically, old villas feature a series of small, disconnected rooms. Consequently, we completely reconfigured the rear floor plan. We designed a highly spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. Furthermore, large timber bi-folding doors seamlessly connect this new space to a generous outdoor entertaining deck. Ultimately, this creates the perfect indoor-outdoor flow required for modern family life.

Upgrading Structure and Comfort

Behind the beautiful heritage finishes, we significantly upgraded the structural integrity of the home. We comlazy-revealprehensively insulated the floors, walls, and ceilings to easily exceed modern residential standards. Additionally, the project required strategic re-piling to ensure long-term stability. Throughout this extensive process, we worked closely with the Auckland Council to ensure full compliance with strict heritage and building regulations. As a result, the home is now incredibly warm, dry, and highly energy-efficient.
